What
motivated you to make your 3D printed footwear collection?
I have
always designed sculptural footwear and 3D printing allows me to create much
more interesting and intricate shapes that are not possible with other methods.
Also, the way it works still fascinates me!
What
was your favourite part of working on the project?
The
ease of the manufacture process. I would send it to print in the afternoon and
the next day it would be there!
As a
designer, what is your favourite and least favourite thing about digital
technology?
I’m
still very ‘hand’s on’ and although I love using new technology, I still do all
my drawing by hand and will make the shapes with leather and moulding materials
before I go to the digital forms. I guess it’s finding a balance between the 2
because I would never change my hand drawing to digital, I just enjoy it too
much and it shows my design handwriting.
What
excites you most about working as a designer?
Finding
inspiration in something and turning it into a product that other people love.
What
are you working on at the moment?
I am
just about to show my new Spring/ Summer 14 collection at London Fashion Week!
This will be the first collection available for retail so it’s all very
exciting (and hectic!).
What do
you have on your desk?
Pen’s,
Pencil’s, Paper, Macbook, my phone, a moleskin diary, hand cream, a few random
hair grips and a packet of mints. Oh and a Coffee!
What’s
the soundtrack to your studio?
It
depends on what sort of day I am having! Today I’ve started with Jagwar Ma’s
album but I’m feeling quite flicky so I’m sure I’ll change it soon!
Who or
what are the top 3 influences on your work?
Architecture,
Sculpture and Unusual Forms.
What
would be your ideal project?
A
project where money isn’t an issue so I could be as creative as possible!
Victoria's work will be on display as part of Create:Digital at the National Glass Centre Sunderland,
5 October - 10 November 2013.
